Claire Barrow has been doing some soul-searching this season. Is she a fashion designer or an artist? She may not, as yet, have found the answer, but her presentation’s staging as an art exhibition provided food for thought.
The collection included hand-painted canvas crinolines and a lineup of surrealist printed jacquards and embroidered merino wool knits. The show also featured a film of the garments being created.
Motifs ranged from Neanderthal cave drawings to ancient Greek statues to medieval anarchy slogans that she made up herself and dubbed “feudal punk.” The latter came on knitwear such as batwing-style sweaters.
