Faustine Steinmetz, who is shortlisted for the LMVH Prize, presented her collection of intricate denim and cotton clothes as a series of art installations viewed through roundels in a makeshift gallery designed by Thomas Petherwick. “I have reproduced fast fashion pieces in a slow way,” she explained.
The majority of her denim jeans, jackets and skirts were created using a laborious hand-felting process, the final step of which involves the fibers being brushed out to create what she called a “photoshop effect.” A pair of jeans hand-finished with 3D silicon paint stood out.
She also added painted cotton polo dresses to her repertoire, giving the handcrafted treatment to pieces usually made very quickly on machines.
