Amanda Wakeley’s gorgeously tactile, textured and nuanced collection of luxe felted cashmeres and degradé mohair drew influence from the layered textiles worn by nomadic tribes in remotest Mongolia. She said her muses were “reindeer herders from the subarctic who have this fabulous way of wrapping themselves up against the extreme cold,” said the designer.
Highlights from the static presentation in the designer’s Mayfair boutique included oversize daywear silhouettes with wide gray check degradé tartan pants where the checks faded into brushed mohair and a gray felted wool coat with waterfall collar and a zip off shearling panel at the hemline. Further coats in red and orange delivered vibrant shots of color like the tundra sun.
Eveningwear was standout, and included a dress with the most delicate chain embroidered into a tartan pattern that melted into asymmetric fringing.
