Naeem Khan set the mood for his bridal show before the first look even came down his floral-canopied fall runway. He served tequila to arriving guests. Backstage, Khan said he channeled a variety of women — among them “American royalty of a bygone era” — as well as the Mediterranean, but that Frida Kahlo was his main muse. In a tribute to her, his models wore bold earrings and beautiful floral headpieces. Khan worked the Latin motif with exquisite ballgowns, a silhouette he said he felt strongly about, done with rich hand embroideries and ornate pearl beading as well as crystal embellishments. Styles ranged from the traditional — a sweetheart ballgown with strips of ribbon and lace — to a fashion-forward caftan with hand-embroidery and crystals. Elsewhere, there were flirty feathered short frocks, a hand-embroidered hooded cape paired with shorts, and a pearl-embellished tiered gown.
