Kayali, the fragrance brand cofounded by Mona Kattan, stirred up online conversations with a peculiar announcement: a “kitten-scented” perfume. The concept, teased on the brand’s Instagram on Tuesday, described notes such as white chocolate, marshmallow and milk, sparking curiosity and debate among fragrance enthusiasts. The announcement turned out to be an April Fools’ prank, but now the brand is considering the idea.
The Kitten Musk fragrance gained traction on platforms like Reddit, where users discussed its appeal. Google Trends data revealed a significant surge in interest following the teaser. Searches for “kitten musk” rose by 3,400 percent, while general searches for Kayali increased by more than 60 percent. On Instagram, the fake announcement gained more than 55,000 likes in one post.

On Wednesday, Mona Kattan revealed that the “kitten-scented” perfume was a hoax. She explained that the brand had been inundated with comments and inquiries about the product, prompting her to clarify its fictional nature.
“Kitten Musk was just an April Fools’ prank! But honestly…should we make it happen?! I mean a scent that smells like soft kitten cuddles & cozy musk? Kinda iconic right?! Let me know if you’d actually wear this!” Kattan wrote.
Founded in 2018 by sisters Mona and Huda Kattan, the fragrance label was launched under the umbrella of Huda Beauty, their globally recognized cosmetics company. Translating to “my imagination” in Arabic, Kayali draws inspiration from Middle Eastern heritage and the art of scent layering.
