MORE MOSES: Artist, designer and self-proclaimed bohemian Rebecca Moses launches her latest collection of paintings, “Elegance in Suspension,” at the Ralph Pucci gallery in Los Angeles on April 7.
“The series features a collection of paintings depicting women who occupy and move through spaces with certainty, even as those environments remain unresolved,” Moses said.
The figures in the paintings are meticulously styled in black, and as Moses said, “feel fully realized and grounded.” However, the interiors around the women are “abstracted into soft tonal fields and modular forms, suggesting spaces shaped by thought and memory rather than literal architecture,” Moses said. “The paintings explore the tension between control and openness, precision and ambiguity.”
Moses will show five canvases, each 6 by 5 feet in dimension and all painted with acrylic, as well as 10 works on paper, each 9 by 12 inches, also in acrylic.

The collection is the latest of several collaborations over the past 10 years between Moses and Ralph Pucci. Previous works shown at Pucci include Moses’ debut collection “Imperfectly Perfect,” introducing her distinctive visual language to the gallery through expressive, fashion-led works celebrating individuality and modern femininity; a series of female portraitures, “Bohemian Gardens,” featuring large canvases with intricate print motifs and semi-clad women embodying the spirit of liberation and self-expression, and a series of paintings depicting strong and influential Black female jazz singers of the 20th century. Moses has also created mannequins for Pucci, and is well known for her fashion designs and fashion illustrations.
Originally, Pucci was a mannequin repair shop and later a manufacturer of mannequins. Over the years, Ralph Pucci evolved the business into showcasing luxury furniture, lighting, sculpture, photography and art, as the demand for mannequins from retailers dried up. Pucci operates permanent galleries in New York, Los Angeles and Miami, and has staged pop-ups in London.
