Megan Stalter put on a new persona for her appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Tuesday in New York City. Instead of her moody, dark brown hair, Stalter offered a head of ginger-yellow tresses that swung down just above her knees, coating her bare shoulders above a personalized Americana bandeau top.
The elongated wig was crimped in sections throughout; the ends were uneven and frayed. Thin, choppy bangs lay flat on her forehead, tickling the tops of her eyebrows. The new facade could be the work of Stalter’s recent collaborator, Clayton Hawkins, hairstylist to Rachel Zegler and Olivia Rodrigo. However, it’s not confirmed that he was the mastermind behind this specific look.
Hawkins did, however, partner with Stalter for the screening of her new Netflix show, “Too Much,” created by Lena Dunham, earlier in July. For this occasion, he imagined Stalter as a character from the early ’60s, slicking her hair back into a waterfall ponytail with flipped ends. It’s not unusual for Hawkins and the actress to flip-flop between decades, pulling inspiration from a wide variety of trends. Stalter can be seen in a sophisticated, voluminous updo one day and a made-to-look wet and tangled style the next.

Her fashion is just as versatile. On Tuesday, Stalter opted for a spirited approach to the everyday American woman, pairing bootcut denim with a white strapless top that read, “Meg Stalter. Prettiest Girl in America.” She also concealed her eyes under rectangular shades and balanced a white shoulder bag on her ombré talons.
Stalter is leading the cast of “Too Much” alongside Will Sharpe, Emily Ratajkowski, Michael Zegen, Rhea Perlman, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Dunham’s “Girls” costar Andrew Mannells. Indeed, Dunham worked hard behind the scenes on this new comedy series, but she also appears in front of the camera in a few episodes.
The show sees Stalter assume the character of “Jessica,” a certified workaholic who takes a job in London after being heartbroken. Sharpe, a star of “The White Lotus” season two, plays her love interest, Felix.
