Roughly one year after assuming the role of queen consort, Queen Maxima attended the Four Freedoms Award ceremony wearing this vibrant sherbet orange dress. The look combined shades of the lively orange color with a softer tone likened to that of red wine. Queen Maxima accessorized her look around the shade to contrast it with the orange, demonstrating her ability to combine colors that complement one another and unify a look.

2017
Another instance in which Queen Maxima toyed with colorblocking again was during the third opening of the European Academy of Neurology congress in 2017. Queen Maxima opted for black-and-white dressing with a twist. She accessorized her dress, which featured billowing sleeves with emerald green strappy heels, belt, statement earrings, fascinator and clutch.
2018
Natan is among the labels Queen Maxima gravitates toward the most. The royal wore this belted dress from the Belgian fashion label for the opening of the Princess Maxima Center for Pediatric Oncology in 2018, and has repurposed it since. More recently, she wore the dress while visiting the new headquarters of DSM-Firmenich in Maastricht last May.

Queen Maxima also has a proclivity for florals and whimsical dressing. This element of her style was on full display during a meeting with the Dutch Society and the opening of the Photo Exhibition Innovation during her 2020 visit to Indonesia.

For royal engagements during the colder seasons, Queen Maxima elevates her fashion savvy by embracing color families and dressing accordingly. While attending the jubilee of the multicultural network for government officials at the ministry of Interior affairs, Queen Maxima wore this ensemble in shades of muted reds.

Of course, Queen Maxima loves to add a bit of fun to her fashion. While attending the exposition of 10 Spanish and Dutch mural painters at Museum Straat last April, Queen Maxima fashioned this green dress by Dutch fashion label Jantaminiau, which featured a large statement bow on the shoulder.
