Goat is embarking on a new collaboration.
The Los Angeles-based platform for sneakers and apparel has been tapped as the official global uniform partner for Art Basel. The partnership will kick off with the upcoming Art Basel Miami, which takes place from Dec. 8 to 10.
Through the partnership, Goat is teaming with American artist Kandis Williams to design the uniforms, which will be worn by all Art Basel hosts at the Miami edition, as well as at Art Basel shows in Hong Kong and Paris next year. Williams will also be showcasing a new art collection during the Miami art fair.
“Since our founding, Goat has had the privilege of partnering with inspiring artists and creatives around the world,” said Sen Sugano, chief brand officer of Goat Group. “Our partnership with Art Basel extends our commitment to the creative community, deepening our connection during the most prestigious art event of the year, while also allowing us to showcase an emerging artist’s work on a global scale.”

For the uniforms, Williams took inspiration from the mythological figure Medusa by featuring a snake motif juxtaposed with archival collages, which is one of the artist’s signature designs.
“There’s something in Medusa that I find really powerful, in that she’s framed as a monster, as something to overcome, but essentially she is the hyper object of what it means to be transformed by vision,” Williams said. “I’ve been thinking a lot about Medusa and not just looking at something and expecting this reward of seeing something beautiful, but to really look at something and know that you will be changed, that part of you will be hardened, and challenging viewers to accept that as an initial premise for their viewership.”
