For NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, Adidas is tapping Willy Chavarria for a collection highlighting a local group dubbed the Compton Cowboys.
Two shoes feature in the collection: a Superstar and Harden Vol. 10, both carrying unique floral patterns. The Willy Chavarria x Compton Cowboys x Adidas Superstar replaces its famous shell toe with a silver-tone metal panel bearing an intricate floral pattern. The rest of the leather upper, as well as the sole unit, is rendered in black to allow its hardware to shine. The Compton Cowboys logo is then printed on the lateral heel, Chavarria’s name replaces “Superstar” above the three stripes and the tongue takes on text for all parties involved.
For the Willy Chavarria x Adidas Harden Vol. 10, which James Harden wore for the first time Sunday, there’s no metal involved. But the sidewalls have been molded with a new floral pattern instead of its typical ripple effect, and Adidas is using the same “Cold Cement” terminology it’s employing for the Superstar. Black is used for the regions above and below, and while no marks for the Compton Cowboys appear on this sneaker, red “Chavarria” text is added to the tongue pull.
