Vans Has a New Sneaker That Looks Like Chanel’s Iconic Graffiti Bag

The Old Skool 36 'Souvenir' is expected to be released this fall.

An upcoming Vans sneaker style is getting lots of attention online ahead of its projected fall 2025 launch.

Reportedly nicknamed “Souvenir,” this new Vans Old Skool 36 gets its inspiration from Chanel’s rare On the Pavements Messenger, a bag from the French fashion house’s Karl Lagerfeld-designed spring 2015 “Boulevard Chanel” collection.

The bags, which were offered in various sizes, feature a worn-in, tie-dyed olive green canvas with graffiti-inspired text and illustrations. Numerous Chanel-branded pins and frayed tweed details further the bag’s lived-in look. The bag is famously a favorite of Bella Hadid, who’s been frequently spotted sporting the peace sign-adorned designer accessory.

While the On the Pavements Messenger’s price tag may put it out of reach for many aspiring owners, there will soon be a chance to get a similar look in the form of footwear. The upcoming Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” puts a clever spin on the low-top late-1970s skate shoe, applying some unabashedly On the Pavements-like detailing to the sneaker.

The Old Skool’s canvas upper features a similar dirty and dyed look, while its signature jazz stripe adopts the frayed multicolor look of the bag’s tweed material. Several enamel pins are scattered on the upper, including flips on the Chanel bag’s smiley face and yin-yang motifs. And like the straps and liner of the On the Pavements Messenger, the “Souvenir” Old Skool features leather accents and metal hardware.

A teaser of the Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” was shared by Greg Betty, who recently served as a senior footwear designer for the brand and helped launch its new OTW Vans line. Betty announced Tuesday on Instagram his departure from the VF Corporation-owned company after nearly four years in his role.

“It wasn’t just about designing products,” Betty wrote. “It was about honoring culture, amplifying voices, protecting traditions, and pushing boundaries forward. It was about answering a calling and showing up for it fully.”

The Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” is expected to be released this fall. Retail pricing has not yet been confirmed.
