The slim-soled sneaker trend knows no bounds. After infiltrating both the designer and athletic footwear markets over the last year and change, the low-profile look is still spreading to new labels. The latest brand to enter the action is Rick Owens.
Famous for his brooding, gothic fashion and furniture lines, designer Rick Owens’ eponymous label has carved out its own niche in the footwear world through its stacked, curling rubber soles. Whether it be the Rick Owens mainline sneakers or the Drkshdw diffusion offerings, the designer has always gravitated toward elevated platforms. Which is what makes the brand’s latest offering, the Minimal Sneaker from its fall 2025 “Concordians” collection, all the more surprising.

Released in five different styles, the Rick Owens Minimal Sneaker lives up to its name with a razor-thin, barely there bottom. Using the 1970s track shoes that have inspired the trend as its muse, the pair is a sleek and simplified version of Rick Owens’ Runner shoe. It features a similar upper with minimal paneling, but even that has been deconstructed for a slimmer aesthetic.
Despite the shaving down of the sole, the Minimal Sneaker’s outsole retains the designer’s signature shark tooth tread pattern. The six-eyelet shoe is offered in full grain cow leather constructions for its Black/Milk and Milk/Black styles, while Rosewood/Milk, Darkdust/Black/Milk and Chestnut/Milk looks combine leather and suede. The leather pairs include matte surfaces and have been treated with abrasion-resistant finishes while the suede offerings feature what’s described as a waxy hand feel.
The Rick Owens Minimal Sneakers are available now from select retailers and rickowens.eu for a retail price of $895. The Black/Milk and Milk/Black styles are offered in men’s and women’s sizing, while the Darkdust is available exclusively for men and the Rosewood and Chestnut looks come only in women’s sizing.
