Last summer, the Puma Speedcat was named the hottest sneaker in the world. Now, heading into a new summer, Puma is preparing to drop a new version of the sneaker made with leather rather than suede.
The Puma Speedcat Go is an upgraded take on the sneaker with a leather build and more dynamic layering. While the overall shape of the sneaker remains the same, a large mesh oblong underlay runs from the toe to the collar beneath the Formstrip. Gone are the T-toe and gold debossed branding, and a single cat logo is moved to the lateral toe. Loop eyelets are also used for the lacing rather than the more traditional eyestay panel used previously.

For its debut, the Speedcat Go will be available in red and lime green colorways, both of which feature white Formstrips and black mesh, outsole, tongue and lining.

Puma first introduced the Speedcat as a shoe for Formula 1 drivers in 1999, with the sneaker then releasing to the public in 2000. It was relaunched last year for its 25th anniversary and quickly took off because of the wider popularity of low-profile silhouettes, as well as the increased attention on Formula 1. Among the celebrity adopters of the Speedcat have been Emily Ratajkowski, Rosé and Emma Rogue.
For the first quarter of 2025, the remixed Speedcat Ballet was named by Lyst as the second-hottest sneaker in the world, behind only the Adidas Taekwondo, another thin-soled model that relaunched in 2024.
Alongside the Speedcat, the low-profile Mostro has also been a huge hit since its reintroduction last year.
The Puma Speedcat Plus will release June 1 through Puma’s website, as well as select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $110.
