French luxury fashion house Maison Margiela is no stranger to pre-distressed sneakers. If anything, the label is a pioneer of the look, as it has been designing athletic footwear with glue stains, exposed seams and paint splatters since as far back as the early 2000s. The approach continues in fall 2025 with the launch of the Loved to Death sneaker, a new, pre-loved model offered in both men’s and women’s sizing.
Using a silhouette reminiscent of the iconic 1920s Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star, the Maison Margiela Loved to Death sneakers dial up the distressing with visible seams, raw edges and distressed rubber soles, but that’s only the beginning.

Nearly every panel of the shoe is tattered and torn, including a heel seam that’s coming undone and reveals the inner cork components of the shoe. Screws and bolts are affixed randomly throughout the design including coils on the lace tips.
The label’s official product listing describes the Loved to Death sneaker as a “design [that] reworks a classic high-top silhouette with a sense of built-in history.”
Distressed footwear has been a hot topic this year. Much of the attention was centered around Nike, which in May released a “Dirty Triple White” version of its Air Force 1 sneaker which appears to be dirty straight out of the box, but wears away to reveal a pristine white shoe underneath. This spurred debates over whether the pre-distressed sneaker trend had gone too far, but it appears the concept has legs for the foreseeable future.
The Maison Margiela Loved to Death sneakers are offered in Brown/Red and Blue/Black color combinations. The shoes are priced at $1,050 apiece and can be found from maisonmargiela.com and select retailers including Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Luisaviaroma.
