Nicky Hilton combined two trends on a shopping outing in New York City on Wednesday, where she was photographed outside of Gigi Hadid’s Guest in Residence store. The designer merged the ballet flats resurgence with the cutout trend.
Hilton stepped out in a pair of cutout ballet flats from her spring 2020 collaboration with French Soles. She wore the Charlotte shoe that features scalloped cutouts at the collar and a leather bow at the vamp, and retails for $188.
The socialite and model paired the cutout ballet flats with a midi shirtdress, belted to match her shoes, and a bamboo-handle Gucci bag. She completed her look with a pair of black cat-eye sunglasses, rings, and a tank watch.

Hilton’s French Sole collaboration featured the designer’s fresh takes on ballet flats, including scallop cutouts, laser-cut perforations, floral prints, netted mesh, and glitter coating. The run of shoes also included loafers in a variety of styles, from embroidered to velvet and suede, as well as slingback heels, stiletto pumps with a pointed toe, and espadrille sneakers.
It’s the Stacey loafer and Theodora ballerina shoes, though, that were born out of a quest to utilize sustainable materials in a surprising way. Hilton opened up about the launch of the shoes in 2022, telling FN of her spring 2022 collection with French Soles, “When I first looked into [sustainable materials] a couple of years ago, there were not as many options as there are today. It’s just so amazing how far the world has come with different fashionable, sustainable materials. I had a lot of fun finding [details like] glitter, which is all recycled.”
As for the Kathy slipper, which, yes, was named after her mother, Kathy Hilton, Nicky told FN, “I thought it was important to carry over the styles personally because I love them. And you don’t always have to make something new. I like the concept of reusing and just enjoying what we have in our closet.”
Nicky also opened up about how her mom’s style has inspired her throughout her life, telling FN in 2021, “She taught me the power of accessories and to have fun with them. She has an amazing collection of stuff she’s accumulated over the years. The vintage Valentino purses with the feathers and estate jewelry, costume jewelry. She’s a collector.”
