Rack Room Shoes Set to Expand Lighthouse Concept Store Across U.S.

Six of the new stores are now open, with a seventh location set to debut later this fall.

Rack Room Shoes is building on its strategic growth plan with the opening of seven new “lighthouse concept stores” across the country.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based retailer noted that the new locations aim to “reimagine and enhance the shopping experience for the entire family.”

Highlights of the store design concept include and improved shopping experience with better visual navigation and eye-catching elements throughout the store. The company noted that its latest generation of stores improve the wayfinding of its athletic assortment and enhances the presentation of key brands and seasonal assortments.

The stores also include upgraded service elements, including community seating and integrated modern technologies in several locations, the retailer added.

Molly Hartney, chief marketing and digital officer at Rack Room, said in a statement that it’s an “incredibly exciting time” for Rack Room Shoes as it continues to grow and evolve.

“We are not just opening new stores; we are deepening our roots in communities, ensuring families have convenient access to the brands they love and the value they expect from us,” Hartney said.

The newest locations join previous lighthouse concept stores that are open in Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. Six of the new lighthouse concept stores are now open, with a seventh location set to debut later this fall.

Rack Room added that the evolution of the lighthouse stores will continue to expand or add a layered footprint in Colorado, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas.

This news comes after the company elevated two key executives as the retailer realigns its merchandising and digital strategies.

In July, Rack Room promoted Brian Burnett to senior vice president, chief merchandise officer. He previously served as senior vice president, general merchandise officer. Additionally, Molly Hartney was promoted to chief digital officer, a newly created role. She joined the company in 2021 as chief marketing officer.

Mark Lardie, Rack Room’s president and chief executive officer of Rack Room Shoes, said in July that these strategic leadership changes and organizational realignments are “pivotal” in its ongoing efforts to streamline operations and enhance alignment.

“By optimizing our merchandising and digital strategies under their exceptional leadership, we are ensuring sustained success in a dynamic market,” Lardie said.
