Inside Nike’s Newly Renovated Downtown Portland Store

First opened in 2011, Nike closed the location for renovation in late 2023.

Nike has reopened its downtown Portland store after a renovation.

Located at 638 SW Fifth Avenue in the historic Kress Building, the renovated store offers a range of Nike’s premium products and experiences across running, training, sportswear, local collegiate and professional sports, and more.

First opened in 2011, Nike closed the location, just a few miles away from its Beaverton, Ore. headquarters, for a revamp in late 2023. The company noted that the revamped store aims to “re-energize downtown Portland through sport while serving as a tribute to the brand’s athletic heritage and nearly six-decade history in Oregon’s largest city.”

The remaining space houses Jordan Brand and basketball innovations, with kids and local collegiate and professional team gear featured prominently at the register. Each area offers head-to-toe shopping, Nike added.

Nike Portland is the latest global retail location Nike has renovated. In September, the Swoosh renovated and opened its Harajuku store in Tokyo. The renovated retail location is one of several worldwide to feature NSRL Form, a full-body running and motion analysis experience developed by the Nike Sport Research Lab to help athletes understand how they run by capturing 150 data points on their body in motion during a two-minute treadmill session.

In July, the company opened a three‑floor “temporary flagship” in Oxford Circus while its NikeTown London undergoes a transformation through 2027. Plus, Nike opened a women’s store on King’s Road in October, introducing a premium women’s shopping destination in West London.

Last month, FN walked through its newly renovated “House of Innovation” flagship store in New York City. Located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street in midtown Manhattan, the flagship store, which first opened in 2018, was reconfigured to align with Nike president and chief executive officer Elliott Hill’s so-called “Sport Offense” strategy.

Nike, Inc.’s focus on elevated and distinct retail also extends to Jordan Brand’s first U.S. World of Flight location, which opened in Philadelphia last month.
