Alex Davis launched Cobra Society this fall with four styles of boots that incorporate kilim fabrics handwoven by artisans in Morocco — and she’s already doubling the footwear brand’s offerings and adding men’s styles and handbags for spring.
Davis draws inspiration from North African culture and the 20th-century design philosophies of Le Corbusier and Giorgio di Sant’Angelo. She’s expanding her current selection of ankle, midcalf, knee-high and over-the-knee boots to include high-heeled boots, wedges, smoking slippers and a classic men’s leather loafer.
Fabrics for the upcoming season include Betanias, rugs woven by artisans in Northern Morocco using a horizontal loom; Handiras, rare vintage Moroccan wedding blankets, and custom-designed tapestries. The collection retails for $495 to $1,250. It’s produced in Spain using the traditional “Goodyear Welt” technique, which ensures the hand-sewn sole naturally molds to the wearer’s foot, and will be carried in A Man and A Woman, Satine and Alchemist.
