Clarks is celebrating the desert boot’s 65th anniversary by taking its (art) show on the road. The company started touring Clarks Rebooted, an exhibit of desert boots re-imagined by 14 leading British and U.K.-based artists including Tom Price, Rene Gonzalez and Marc Quinn.
The exhibit was on display April 14-19 in Milan and will go on to Frieze New York (May 14-17), followed by London Design Festival (Sept. 13-21) and Freize London (Oct. 15-18).
Each artist commissioned by Clarks to design their own boot was given a shoebox containing a pair of desert boots, materials, swatches, patterns and history on the shoe. The boots were reproduced for a 250-piece limited edition collection, which Clarks will release for sale two by two every month until October.
The original boots will be put on the auction block at the end of the year, with proceeds benefiting The Halo Trust, an organization that specializes in global landmine clearance.
