NEW YORK — Indigo Knitwear International, London, a maker of indigo-dyed yarn, has been awarded $2.3 million by a federal judge in a patent-infringement case against Chonbang Co. Ltd., a denim fabric producer in Seoul, South Korea.
Thomas S. Zilly, a judge in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle, also ruled that Chonbang be permanently enjoined from making, using or selling garments that infringe on U.S. patent 4,613,336, a knitted fabric produced from indigo-dyed yarn developed by IKI’s owner, Michael Quinnen. Officials at Chonbang would not comment on the suit, which was filed by IKI in October 1993.
Last month, a federal judge awarded IKI $5.4 million in a similar suit against Filartex SpA of Breschia, Italy.
