Sydney Sweeney brought method dressing to the 2025 Met Gala red carpet on Monday. The actress wore a custom Miu Miu gown made of a black sequined fabric, featuring a modest train, short sleeves with fringe detailing on one side, and a distinctive asymmetric cutout at the chest.
Styled by her longtime collaborator Molly Dickson, the actress was paying homage to Hollywood star Kim Novak, famously known for starring in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 psychological thriller “Vertigo.” Novak wore a similar dress in “The Legend of Lylah Clare” from 1967.
Sweeney is set to portray Novak in the upcoming film “Scandalous.” This film, which will mark Colman Domingo’s debut as a director, explores the 1957 romantic affair between Kim Novak and Rat Pack singer Sammy Davis Jr. Their interracial relationship faced heavy criticism and threats from studio executives then.
