SOVEREIGN SNAPS: To mark her royal milestone, Buckingham Palace has released a new portrait of Queen Elizabeth, shot by Mary McCartney.
On Wednesday, the Queen became Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, surpassing the record set by Queen Victoria.
Shot at Buckingham Palace, the photo features the Queen dressed in a pink and white floral Karl Ludwig dress, sitting at her desk in her private audience room and sorting through documents in her dispatch box.
With her reign of 63 years and seven months, the Queen bypassed the record set by Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years from 1837 to 1901.
The 89-year-old royal is scheduled to spend the day in Scotland undertaking royal engagements and will launch the Scottish Borders Railway.
In London, events to honor her include a fleet of boats that will sail along the Thames between Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament, plus a four-gun salute from the HMS Belfast.
