PARIS — Emanuel Ungaro is poaching a designer from Italy’s Roberto Cavalli to give the house new creative élan.
Norwegian Peter Hyde Dundas, 39, part of Cavalli’s team for the last three years, will succeed Vincent Darré as artistic director at Ungaro, sources confirmed. The house on Thursday formally announced Darré’s departure.
An announcement of Dundas’ appointment is expected as early as today. WWD on Tuesday reported that Dundas would get the job. Dundas worked at Jean Paul Gaultier from 1992 to 2000 before moving to Cavalli.
He joins Ungaro at a moment of transition. Last month, San Francisco entrepreneur Asim Abdullah bought the firm from Gruppo Ferragamo with plans to give it greater global reach.
Dundas will be the third designer — after Darré and Giambattista Valli — to follow in founder Emanuel Ungaro’s footsteps.
