NEW YORK — The Lingerie Americas trade show here will feature 240 brands for spring-summer 2006 from 150 international and domestic companies.
A record turnout of more than 3,000 retailers is expected to attend the event, to be held July 31 to Aug. 2 at the landmark Altman Building and Metropolitan Pavilion.
Thirty-six brands will be exhibiting for the first time. They include Jacalyn Bennett of Bennett & Co., New York; U.K.-based Mimi Holliday, a secondary line by Damaris; Honeydew Intimates from California; Trelise Cooper, a fashion brand from New Zealand; Exilia, an upscale Italian foundations brand represented by Maria Scotto; Esprit Collection Bodywear from Germany, which will be distributed in the U.S. by The Hochman Design Group, and a high-end lingerie label from Italy called Bacirubati. NAP Inc. will market and distribute Bacirubati in the U.S.
Sylvain Heraud, project director for the French-operated fair, said this year’s edition will feature two main highlights: a Best Sellers Lounge in the lobby of the Metropolitan Pavilion, which will showcase best-selling bras and coordinating panties, sleepwear and at-homewear items by 12 Canadian brands on mannequins, and a cocktail party and runway fashion show Aug. 1 at the Puck Building.
“We had very good response when we did a Best Sellers Lounge at our March show,” Heraud said. “For August, Collections Montreal has booked the entire lounge for Canadian brands. It will be decorated as a lounge for buyers to sit and relax.”
The fashion show, which will be in two parts, will include two cabaret-inspired vignettes — “Rendez-vous with Paris” and “Rendez-vous with New York” — created by French fashion show producer A Suivre. Sponsors will be DEFI-La Mode de France and Lingerie Francaise, both French trade organizations, and Lycra by Invista Inc.
“There will be shuttle service to the Puck Building starting at 5:50 [p.m.], and we’ll have a welcome drink awaiting buyers, press and V.I.P.s,” continued Heraud. “The show will start at 6:30 with 60 lingerie outfits from 12 French brands. After the French show, we’ll have a general composite show representing 30 brands and 66 lingerie outfits.”
