LOS ANGELES — Demi Moore as skin care purveyor?
With not a smudge of makeup on her flawless face, the lithe Mrs. Ashton Kutcher let it slip Thursday night at the launch party for her friends’ Miss Davenporte collection that she’s working with her Beverly Hills cosmetologist, Terri Lawton, on a skin care line.
The revelation came not long before Moore, dressed in a one-strap black-and-white Miss Davenporte dress, talked up the stylists-turned-designers Estee Stanley and Cristina Ehrlich, whom the actress began working with about six months ago.
“I’m always ready to support entrepreneurs — and not just women — because it’s really tough and takes courage for anyone to strike out on their own,” Moore said during the party at Ron Herman at Fred Segal and hosted by the retailers and Lucky magazine.
“Estee and Cristina have been wonderfully supportive in helping me when I’ve had to pull myself together for an event,” Moore said. “They have tremendous style and this line is a reflection of that. I wasn’t going to miss this for anything.”
Nor were the duo’s other red-carpet clients. It would be any designer’s dream to have Moore, along with Eva Mendes, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jessica Biel, Mandy Moore and other starlets turn out — all in looks from the new collection — for a launch. Stanley and Ehrlich managed it partly because of their own power status as top Hollywood stylists.
I’m obsessed with everything in the line,” said Mendes, who met Stanley two years ago on the set of the Luke Wilson-written and directed “The Wendell Baker Story.” Stanley served as costume designer. “I’m such a retro girl when it comes to glamour and clothes. These clothes satisfy that in a way that isn’t about just repeating the past.”
Host John Eshaya, who, as women’s buyer at Ron Herman, is introducing the line in the Melrose Avenue shop, was floored by the bold-name guests, including Elisha Cuthbert, Michelle Trachtenberg, Clair Forlani and Amy Adams, and the general dress code of the crowd. “Just look how beautiful all the girls are tonight,” he said.
While Ron Herman will not disclose numbers from its trunk shows, the two-hour event kept the sales staff zigzagging between racks filled with cocktail frocks, pencil skirts, cigarette pants and textured blousons, as well as a half dozen dressing rooms.
