Forget girdles. Bagir Ltd. has patented a Lycra-blend liner it claims makes women look a size smaller.
Unlike other shaping products, Bagir’s Shaperfect liner is affixed inside pants and skirts without altering their outward appearance, according to David Feig, vice president of marketing for Bagir.
“There are products that have been making women look slimmer for a while, but we wanted to come up with something that goes on under the garment, is part of the garment, but doesn’t distort the shape of the garment,” he said.
Bagir spent about a year developing the Shaperfect technology. The Israeli private label manufacturer is known for its innovative tailoring, including the machine-washable suit it created for The Limited this fall.
“Bagir is a company that is completely dedicated to innovation, but we don’t innovate solely for the sake of innovation,” Feig said. “We respond to consumer needs, and women feeling better about their bodies is one of the things that was right up there.”
According to Bagir, research shows women consider five body parts to be the most problematic: the backside, hips, thighs, waist and legs. Shaperfect comes in three styles — a butt-lifter, tummy-tucker and thigh shaper.
Bagir is now finding retail clients for the Shaperfected-apparel, which wholesales around $35. Victoria’s Secret catalogue is its first client, selling a Shaperfect pant for $98.
