Lace inspired by geometric jewelry and Art Deco motifs, along with matte finishes and neutrals were among the key trends for spring 2008 at Première Vision, with lace exhibitors citing solid orders.
“We’ve experienced a growing number of East European clients who have money and are willing to spend,” said Hervé Protais, general manager of Solstiss.
The firm’s jewelry-inspired lace chain motifs did well, Protais noted.
Others signaled a non-directional season, with demand for both heavily charged and diaphanous lace styles.
“Our featherweight laces were popular, but designers were also after complex designs,” said Lionel Monjo, general manager of Alphalace, citing one lace made using seven techniques that features different embroideries on each side.
“American clients were after cotton laces and tulle in various blends this season,” said Jackie Cozzo, head of U.S. sales for Sophie Hallette. “Heavily embellished trims also worked well, such as the Swarovski crystal-embellished tulle.”
