Chinese megastar Li Yuchun, known as Chris Lee, has linked with Alexander Wang on costumes for her “Growing Wild” tour, which kicks off in Beijing in August.
The designer detailed the collaboration in a video posted to Instagram this morning. “I’m so honored to be a part of Chris Lee’s tour,” Wang tells the camera. “She’s very daring. She took a lot of fashion risks and I really respect and appreciate that about her,” he continues, describing each look — sporty, denim, tuxedo — as “rooted.” “We wanted something very dramatic obviously as a closing look. I thought “Well, why don’t we take that idea of drama and try to put it into something that felt very her, which was masculine and kind of utilitarian. When we started talking about it, it felt like we were growing up together and this moment of collaboration really made sense. I think it will be a memory for both of us in the long run.”
Lee is a fixture on the fashion scene, most recently attending Gucci’s resort show in London. She has collaborated with many luxury designers in the past, including Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, who created custom designs for her in 2013.
