Ever the pioneer, Louis Vuitton is exporting its legacy of art sponsorship to Cuba, which is now opening up to the world. At the 12th Havana Biennial, which gets under way May 22, the French luxury giant is supporting several artists represented by the Galleria Continua in Miami, including Anish Kapoor, Daniel Buren, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Shilpa Gupta, Nikhil Chopra and José Yaque.
Vuitton is also organizing two of its Art Talks — one with Buren, the other with Pistoletto — on the eve of the opening.
Having been a trailblazer in retail — it was among the first to open boutiques in Korea, China, South Africa, Mongolia and Kazakhstan — Vuitton is now doing for paintings and sculpture what it did for handbags.
