MILAN — In record time for Italian justice, a court in Florence ruled in favor of Gucci, which earlier this month filed an injunctive proceeding against Elisabetta Gucci, a descendant of the dynasty.
The filing followed news reports that alleged the luxury goods house was entering the hotel business after Elisabetta Gucci revealed plans to open luxury hotels with the name EG Hotels by Elisabetta Gucci.
According to the court’s order, all parties have to immediately cease any use of the trademark in question, as well as of the domain name “Elisabetta Gucci” for any business or advertising purpose. The court also imposed a penalty for any possible violation of the order.
Gucci welcomed the decision, which, it said, “represents a relevant precedent in terms of intellectual property protection and will hopefully act as a significant deterrent for those who intend to unlawfully license or commercially exploit the Gucci trademarks.”
