“I’ve already won — I’m here!” Tessa Thompson, nominated for her role in “Hedda,” said of being at the 2026 Golden Globes.
Thompson joined WWD editors Jenny B. Fine and Alex Badia and cohost Jeannie Mai on the red carpet for WWD’s Eye on the Carpet livestream to chat all things fashion and beauty ahead of the night’s ceremony.
“I’m just having fun. I love fashion, I love getting dressed up, I’ve been dreaming of this since I was a little girl,” said the actress of her green shimmering gown by Pierpaolo Piccioli for Balenciaga, which featured embroidered fishscale sequins. “It was Pierpaolo’s brilliant idea to go with this green, which is kind of an homage to my character in the film ‘Hedda.’”

“With the big award shows, I’m going directly to designers myself,” she said of her process. “It’s more personal, it’s better, you can really mold it the way you want it to be.”
Taylor is quickly building quite the archive of red carpet looks, much to her oldest daughter’s benefit.
“My 10-year-old is almost my height and is already taking my stuff,” she said. “I’m like ‘Babe, I have to give that back.’”
Eva Victor, the writer, director and star of “Sorry, Baby,” was in a custom Loewe red strapless gown. “My name is on the tag. It says ‘Eva Victor’ on it, can you believe it?” she said. “And custom shoes because my feet are too big to fit into a normal size, yay!”
Priyanka Chopra Jonas described her getting ready process as “chaotic,” with friends dropping in and out throughout the day. “I’m an Indian girl. It’s an open-door policy,” said Chopra Jonas, who was dressed in custom Dior for her presenter duties. “I usually am pretty nonchalant about it, but this time I’m talking about football,” said the actress, adding that she practiced her bit on husband Nick Jonas beforehand.
Chase Sui Wonders, wearing a custom emerald Balenciaga gown, revealed she had spent the morning doing a 35-minute plank and prepping her skin. But the star of “The Studio” said her beauty prep leading up to the ceremony was less lymphatic drainage massage and more sports. “I play some hockey. I go for a run,” she said.
As to who she was looking forward to seeing throughout the night?
“I just watched the first episode of ‘Heated Rivalry,’” she said. “It’s porn. That’s a pornographic [show]. And it’s amazing. And I just caught sight of [Hudson Williams].”
Nominated for “Song Sung Blue,” Kate Hudson was honoring the late Giorgio Armani in a custom Privé gown.
“We all miss him so it feels nice to be in this dress,” she said.
Decades into her career, Hudson said her red carpet style is always evolving. “I’m an Aries so I get very bored very fast,” she said. “For me, the thing that is the constant is comfort, ease, fluidity. I like things that feel effortless.”
Julia Roberts also chose to wear Armani for the big night.
“I adored him and he was so kind and generous to me and my family for so many years,” Roberts said of the late designer. “I couldn’t think of wearing anybody else tonight.”
In addition to wearing his designs, Roberts maintained a close relationship with Armani.
“He did give Danny [Moder] and I his house in Pantelleria for our one-year anniversary. And he said ‘invite all your friends’ and we had one of the most fun, beautiful vacations,” she said. “We’d never been anywhere like that in our lives. It was so fantastic.”
Despite it being the Golden Globes day, Jennifer Garner still had some normalcy to start her morning.
“My daughter went back to college this morning, so I got up at five,” she said of the hours leading up to the red carpet. “I had this huge sleepover at my house last night. I made waffles for a bunch of teenagers.”
This year’s Globes red carpet got a “facelift” in the form of a gently sloping set of stairs.
“Hey, I didn’t trip,” said Zoey Deutch, sharing her thoughts on the setup. The actress was in a drop-waist Prada gown and understated glam, the result of a “very fun” getting ready process. “I had my dream team glam gals,” she said.
The “KPop Demon Hunters” trio — singers Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, who provided the music for animated K-pop group Huntrix — were each in coordinating black gowns. “We’re like a Venn diagram,” said Ejae, in custom Dior, of the group’s sartorial synergy.
“Sinners” star Wunmi Mosaku was in a bright yellow custom Matthew Reisman gown, who also designed her dress for the film’s London premiere. Heading into the ceremony, Mosaku was rooting for director Ryan Coogler and costar Michael B. Jordan, nominated for best lead actor. “His craft is so detailed,” she said of Jordan. “I just need everyone to give him his flowers. He’s one of our greatest.”
For menswear, trends included pins and slicked back hair, monochromatic brown suits and 1970s references.
Colman Domingo, an ambassador for Valentino, accessorized his monochromatic black tux with a smattering of Boucheron ivy-shaped jewel brooches, a new piece for the house. “With the team, we try to tell the story with every look,” the actor said of his approach to red carpet dressing. “I wanted to be a bit more laid-back. I didn’t want it to be about me.”
Glen Powell was among Domingo’s tablemates for the evening. The actor brought his parents along to the Globes, who were also with him when he found out he received a best actor nomination for his role in “Chad Powers.” “I was at my ranch with my family,” Powell said. “We got to all celebrate together.”
“The Pitt” star Noah Wyle was asked to show off his Cartier watch. “They might want to send me another,” said the best actor nominee, dressed in a brown Celine tuxedo. “They chose me this evening,” Wyle said of wearing the French brand. “I was told they don’t usually do award shows.”
“I’ve been working with Jonathan Anderson at Dior so I’m completely taken care of,” said “Frankenstein” actress Mia Goth of her first Golden Globes look.
Goth and her glam team decided to channel old Hollywood glamour for her look. “With my dark hair, Monica Bellucci has kind of become a north star for us,” she said.
Her “Frankenstein” costar Oscar Isaac had made the evening a family affair.
“I’m here with my brother, he’s my date today. It’s just a time to celebrate,” he said. The actor was dressed in a custom tuxedo by The Row.
“They were pretty quick,” he said of the brand’s creation of his tux. “I think it just took a couple weeks.”
A few minutes before the start of the show, an announcer beckoned the carpet stragglers toward the ballroom.
“It’s crazy, but the Globes are the fun one,” said Keri Russell, closing out WWD Eye on the Carpet. “Everybody squished in together, it’s rowdy, it’s fun.”
