Anne Hathaway is the latest celebrity to link up with the United Nations. The award-winning actress has been appointed a Global Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women, an entity which works to increase gender equality worldwide.
The actress shared the news on Instagram, writing: “Excited to be appointed Global Goodwill Ambassador of @UNWomen, the U.N. agency for gender equality and women’s empowerment. Honored to work with @UNWomen to ensure that all genders are able to fully and equally participate in the world economy. I think we can all agree it’s long past the time for action.”
UN Women further detailed what the position entails. “She’ll focus on spotlighting the unequal burden of #carework in the home, and will work with us to advance policies worldwide on affordable #childcare services and shared #parentalleave.” Other famous global ambassadors for U.N. Women include Emma Watson and Nicole Kidman.
The appointment adds to what has been a busy spring for Hathaway. Her most recent blockbuster, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” opened late last month, and in March she and husband Adam Shulman welcomed their first child.
