Perhaps Marisa Tomei’s new role on Fox’s runway hit, the soap opera-esque “Empire” has stoked her fashion appetite. At the Crosby Street store opening of Seattle-based brand Totokaelo, the actress seemed right at home amid the racks of Ann Demeulemeester and Comme des Garcons.
“When I go to Seattle, I always make sure to go,” she said. “ I have some really great Y’s by Yohji [Yamamoto] pants, and [founder and CEO Jill Wenger] carries a lot of good Rick Owens and a lot of Acne — though we have that in L.A. now.” Tomei wore a sparkly leopard print Haider Ackermann dress, sent over by Wenger, with her own backpack by Christopher Lemaire, picked up in Paris. Though she managed to squeeze in her friend Raquel Allegra’s show earlier in the day, this was the culmination of her fashion week.
Next up, she’s bound for Chicago to finish shooting for “Empire,” in which she reportedly plays a lesbian billionaire named Mimi Whiteman. “It’s a little hilarious fun thing,” said Tomei, adding, “she could afford every piece of clothing in this store.”
