FISH TALES: “That is one hideous fish,” Robert Pattinson remarked as he gazed up at the 5 foot bronze sculpture looming over the bar at Caviar Kaspia.
“It’s a sturgeon,” noted Serge Brunschwig, president at Dior Homme, which was hosting a dinner to celebrate the spring 2017 collection it had presented earlier in the day.
Pattinson, who was front row and posed for innumerable photos, confessed he was “overwhelmed” by the experience, as hectic outside the venue as inside. He noted it wasn’t his first fashion show, however, since he walked one for Hermès when he was only 12.
Pattinson, who fronts Dior Homme’s fall campaign, was joined at the event by the faces of the winter spots, including Larry Clark and A$AP Rocky.
Rocky arrived in a white leather Dior Homme bomber jacket with flower patches on the sleeves, paired with a slogan T-shirt made by “these young kids in New York,” he said.
“There he is,” Rocky exclaimed as Michael B. Jordan arrived, rushing to embrace him.
After cocktails, guests filed one-by-one onto a long banquette, Hopper Penn’s girlfriend Uma Von Wittkamp ensconced at the head table next to Dior Homme designer Kris Van Assche.
After the caviar-topped potatoes had been cleared away, nature called and Von Wittkamp decided to tiptoe over the table rather than make everybody scooch. Rocky gallantly hoisted her from the table and placed her gently on the floor.
Dior chief executive officer Sidney Toledano raised a glass to toast Van Assche, and made light of reports that Valentino’s co-creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri would become Dior’s seventh couturier.
“I don’t know who is going to be the women’s designer of Dior, but I know who we have for men’s,” he said, to a round of chuckles.
