What better way to start New York Fashion Week than with a Chanel party? On Wednesday night the brand unveiled a pop-up shop in the Meatpacking District to celebrate its new Boy.Friend watch collection. The stark space featured the $12,500 to $27,000 watches alongside considerable less pricey (read: free) temporary tattoos of the design. “Maybe that’s the way for us to go right now, the temporary tattoo version,” said Harley Viera-Newton. “Maybe it’s a good entry-level, the tattoo and then you work your way up.” Across the space, a Coke machine spit out custom Boy.friend-branded bottles. “I don’t have a boyfriend, though, so this is kind of rubbing it in,” said Tennessee Thomas with a sigh.
Since it was early in the week, guests still seemed genuinely happy to be attending a fashion event. “I’m excited for fall, for back-to-school, for everyone to get back to business, for the out-of-office messages to turn off,” said Jen Brill. “I don’t really go to that many shows but I’m always excited to support my friends and to check out young designers, like, I really like Eckhaus Latta.”
