Fashion school is back in session.
On the eve of New York Fashion Week, Roger Vivier and e-tailer Mytheresa.com traded in the traditional kegger in favor of a more intimate soiree — think less football team, more debate club.
Still, the candlelit dinner, held at the Fat Radish’s private event space in the Greenwich Village, attracted the popular girls — the Plastics or Heathers, if you will, depending on your graduation year. The tight-knit, perpetually together crew, which included Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe, Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor, Harley Viera Newton, Annabelle Dexter-Jones and Jordan Hewson — sat close on precariously placed couch in the room’s entrance, gossiping about new clothes and summer vacations.
“I like anything that my mom might have worn,” said Chung of her Roger Vivier flats. “Obviously they’ve modernized it, but it’s still a classic. Also I’m kind of a sucker for a big box heel.” As for her back-to-school dress? “This is Rosie Assoulin,” she said, gesturing toward the strapless frock. “I see her on Instagram.”

Speaking of apps, Chung quickly plugged her latest project, a fashion app called “Villoid,” inspired by Cher Horowitz’s computerized wardrobe in “Clueless.” “Its really good, yeah,” she said. “We had a pajama party last night to launch it.” The pillow talk from the night before carried over well into dessert — a salted caramel and chocolate tart — with nearby seatmates, including Karen Katz, Justin O’Shea, Will Peltz, Joshua Schulman and Tina Leung occasionally chiming in. On the fringes of the table sat a new addition to the scene, foreign exchange student Jeanne Damas, the face of Roger Vivier’s fall campaign and France’s answer to, well, Chung. “I’ve known the brand always,” Damas said. “In France, it’s very iconic and a very classic brand. I also see the brand in a lot Sixties movies with Catherine Deneuve. Every actress in the Sixties was wearing them.”
The model had come specifically for the event, but was extending her stay to take in New York Fashion Week — her first. Her plans, however, were less than concrete. “I’m not sure,” she said when asked what shows she’d be taking in. “I’ll have to check with my agent.” C’est la vie.
