Margot Robbie may play Jane in “The Legend of Tarzan” opposite Alexander Skarsgård, but she was far from a Plain Jane at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday night. Styled by Kate Young, the actress donned a black silk kimono from Alessandro Michele’s fall lineup for Gucci on the carpet. While her premiere look is more elaborate than the off-white dress her character wears in jungles of the Congo in the film, it is equally as wild: the Gucci dress is covered in colorful embroidered flora and fauna and accented with bright pink mink fur sleeve cuffs.
Gucci has been a surprise (considering Michele’s idiosyncratic aesthetic — a mix of granny, nerdy, vintage-quirk) favorite among the celebrity set as of late, from the pale pink tulle confection Elle Fanning wore to the New York premiere of “Neon Demon” to Michele fully costuming Florence Welch’s “How Beautiful” tour.
“Tarzan” is Robbie’s first major blockbuster premiere of the summer, but it’s far from her last — she also stars in the much-hyped, buzzy superhero flick “Suicide Squad,” which will premiere next month. She’s also set to star in “Terminal,” out later this year. The thriller, costarring Simon Pegg, is about two hit men who seem to be on a suicide mission while working for a mysterious employer.

Robbie is proving herself to be quite a fashion plate. In May, she attended the Met Gala wearing Calvin Klein Collection — a natural pick, considering she was recently named the face of Calvin Klein’s upcoming Deep Euphoria women’s fragrance.
She may have gotten a tip or two on how to mug the Calvin Klein way from her costar Skarsgård, who fronted the brand’s men’s fragrance Encounter Calvin Klein in 2012. The 39-year-old actor has been seen at more fashion-y events as of late — likely a result of his relationship with the industry-obsessed-over Alexa Chung — including this year’s CFDA Awards in July.
