Blake Lively may live in swimwear for the majority of her latest beach-centric film “The Shallows,” but she went much more formal for the film’s New York premiere on Tuesday. The actress donned a custom-designed black-and-white Carolina Herrera gown, accessorizing the look with a Christian Louboutin clutch and oversize jeweled rings designed by Lorraine Schwartz. Lively is pregnant with her second child with Ryan Reynolds, but you could barely tell under the gown’s layers of tulle.
“Blake is fabulous…and beautiful,” Herrera commented. “For a designer, she is a dream to dress; she knows what she likes and what works on her body. The dress we did for her premiere captures her essence — the black patent bodice says power and the tulle with a flower appliqué says softness and femininity. Her best accessory last night was the glow of motherhood.”
Lively stars in the summer thriller, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, as a surfer vacationing on a lush, secluded island — dubbed “paradise” by a local resident. Naturally, things go downhill from there: A white shark emerges from the aqua water, taking out two of Lively’s surfing buddies and leaving her stranded on a rock in the water and fighting for her life. Does she make it out of the water alive? We certainly hope so.
