Klarna has rolled out 13 products as part of the company’s “Spotlight Fall” program launch.
The company said the launch of the products builds on its “previous applications of AI to provide a discovery shopping feed in the Klarna app, which recommends products based on personal interests — the feed is now enriched with the global rollout of shoppable videos.”
The impetus behind the rollout is based on Klarna research from earlier this year that revealed 80 percent of consumers “look forward to having an AI shopping assistant,” the company said in a statement.
The launch includes an AI-powered image search that lets shoppers “snap, search and shop anything around them,” Klarna said, adding that based on success in the U.S., shoppable videos are now available globally. Barcode scanning is also part of the launch where consumers can scan and search and use a compare tool in physical stores. There’s also a new 10 percent cash-back program.

The in-app, AI-powered shopping lens is perhaps the most innovative feature of the launch. “With the in-app camera feature, the shopping lens can visually identify over 10 million items — be it a piece of clothing, home decor or electronics — and match these with over 50 million store offers in Klarna’s search and compare tool, enabling curious shoppers to learn more, and compare prices, retailers and reviews,” Klarna said, adding that shoppers will also be shown similar items “that match the style of the pictured product, sparking even more inspiration for products they may have never known existed.”
The shopping lens feature is available to consumers in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
“Klarna is the smarter choice, whether you’re looking for shopping inspiration, personalized recommendations, or finding the best price,” said Sebastian Siemiatkowski, chief executive officer and cofounder of Klarna. “Just like the internet gave everyone access to information, AI gives everyone access to intelligence, context and personalization. At Klarna we’re using this to bridge the gap between the physical and digital world, connecting how humans get inspired with how computers search. I’m super proud that Klarna is leading this revolution in retail.”
