Retail businesses reopened from a lockdown after a shooting at UCLA on Wednesday morning closed down the campus for a few hours.
UCLA said the police reported an apparent murder-suicide involving two men in an engineering building located in the center of the campus. The police said the situation has been contained and the campus has reopened. Classes are canceled for the day and are expected to resume tomorrow.
Within an hour after the confirmation from the police, Urban Outfitters reopened its store located two blocks south of the campus on Westwood Boulevard. A store employee said it was closed for about an hour due to the lockdown.
A three-hour lockdown affected the Hammer Museum, which is further south away from the campus on Wilshire Boulevard.
On the other hand, other retail businesses remained open during the ordeal. Target and Aveda Institute, which are both tucked between Urban Outfitters and the campus on Weyburn Avenue, conducted business as usual.
