What started as a quick trip to Macy’s to pick up her favorite Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat turned into a full makeup session for 59-year-old Doreen Mcloughlin. “I just said, ‘The hell with it—let’s have some fun,’” says Mcloughlin, an importer who lives in Brooklyn. “Every six months, I decide to change all my products.” She spends $2,000 each year on beauty products and makes at least two annual trips to Harrod’s in London, one of her favorite stores, to stock up. But as much as she loves colorful makeup— “I do not ever want anything boring,” she insists—skin care is even more important. “If I’m out until three in the morning, I’m still getting in the shower and taking my makeup off,” she says. “I have a 20-minute routine every night.”
