DALLAS — Barneys New York has grand plans for the two-level, 88,000-square-foot flagship it is set to open Sept. 29 at NorthPark Center here.
Among the unique design highlights of the store: a two-story glass and steel entrance that contains a massive biomorphic steel sculpture by artist Jean-Paul Philippe.
In the store, Philippe has created abstract murals, Japanese paper cutout compositions in the cosmetics area and corset-wrapped columns in the women’s shoe department.
“The Dallas customer enjoys shopping in our other locations and we knew it was the perfect time to bring the Barneys experience home to them and introduce ourselves to some new friends,” said Howard Socol, chairman of Barneys New York. “The store itself manages to strike the balance between the whimsy of our visual displays and the luxury of the merchandise that we carry.”
Women’s brands will include Givenchy, Lanvin, Rochas, Balenciaga, Dries Van Noten, Daryl K, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Trovata, Rogan and Tsubi, among others.
The Dallas store will be the fifth flagship in the Barneys New York chain. Others are in New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago and Boston. Barneys New York, a subsidiary of Jones Apparel Group Inc., also operates three smaller regional stores, 10 Barneys Co-ops and 11 outlet stores.
