BERLIN — Spa-oriented Babor Cosmetics has a new retail focus.
The Aachen, Germany-based skin-care company opened a flagship store in Hamburg this month, its first ever.
“In this store, we can comprehensively present Babor in a top location, with our entire retail assortment, well-informed, professional consultations, computer-assisted skin analysis and a spa suite for short, effective treatments. The store is our showroom, and at the same time, it brings Babor closer to the customer,” explained Babor chief executive officer Michael Schummert.
The interior of the 650-square-foot shop and the private treatment room are bedecked in white with gold accents, like much of the brand’s packaging.
Babor is known for its array of single-dose ampoule-based skin care. The new shop lets customers play with the glass-packaged tidbits, choosing them pick-a-mix style to create a custom care set at the shop’s center counter, which features a built-in ampoule bar. Prices run from 19 to 38 euros ($21-$42) for a set of seven treatment vials.

Babor’s new flagship also has a limited offering of spa treatments for women and men.
Additional retail locations are in the pipeline, the company said, but the project is still too fresh to reveal concrete plans. Babor is also planning a flagship spa in Berlin, where the focus will be treatments rather than retail.
Babor is present in cosmetic institutes, shops, and luxury spas in more than 70 countries; the company’s 2014 beauty sales amounted to $174.6 million.
