NEW YORK — As of today, Scoop Street shoppers can get a sugar fix at the Meatpacking District store’s new Dylan’s Candy Bar outpost.
Respective founders Stefani Greenfield of Scoop and Dylan Lauren of Dylan’s Candy Bar, expect the treats to be a real draw with women who don’t want to sit at nearby cafes for a pick-me-up. Scoop Street has strategically placed the candy near the store’s windows, with the hopes of catching the eyes of passersby. “She’s our own little Willy Wonka,” said Greenfield with a laugh.
“It’s all oxymoronic — buy a pair of skinny jeans and a bag of malted milk balls.” she added.
Jokes aside, Lauren and Greenfield, who are friends, insist they share a similar design aesthetic and both cater to stylish women in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Both are hopeful their collaboration will encourage a little self-indulgence, whether it be for a few sweets or a designer label. “Candy is sort of an impulse buy,” Lauren said.
A longtime Scoop customer, Lauren said she admired Greenfield’s color-coordinated and well-edited stores well before her first candy store opened. Like Scoop, Dylan’s Candy Bar tends to be a destination. “Hopefully, this will help lure them up to the real flagship,” she said, referring to the 1011 Third Avenue location where a third floor is being added to make it 15,000 square feet. Lauren is scouting store locations in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and SoHo here. A private label candy-inspired collection of spa products is in the works, as well as more items for W Hotels. Lauren also is in talks with other hip hotels and private jet companies to jazz up their interiors with Dylan’s Candy Bar treats.
