Kevin Marschall has joined CBRE Group Inc. as a “store-within-a-store” specialist for the firm’s retail partnerships business.
“I will be creating licensing opportunities for department stores and mid- to big-box retailers,” Marschall said. “I will also be representing the specialty retailers that are looking to increase their store footprint by licensing space within the larger stores.”
“This retail partnerships practice will position CBRE to capitalize on an emerging trend of smaller merchants colocating with larger retail host environments,” said Bill Wright, managing director of CBRE, the Los Angeles-based commercial real estate services and investment firm.
The trend is evident at Macy’s, Hudson’s Bay and other retailers that have been opening licensed and leased shops inside their stores, collaborating with Topshop, Sunglass Hut, Starbucks, among other companies. The idea is to generate greater shopper traffic, differentiate with new products and categories where the host company may lack expertise or access to, and generate higher productivity of the selling space.
