Spotlight: Messe Frankfurt
With winter approaching, events such as Messe Frankfurt’s Texworld USA and its colocated show, Apparel Sourcing USA, are returning to New York Jan. 19 to 21. The event will be located at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
And new this year is artistic direction from New York-based agency The Doneger Group, which will unveil a trend showcase, The Next Dimension, which offers trend insights on seasonal colors and textile designs for spring 2021. Centered on four themes — Fundamental, Diaphanous, Alteration and One World — the selection will focus on functional and high-quality fabrics “that move beyond performance and design.” Show organizers noted that “2020 is a spotlight on innovation through the evolution of today’s fabrics: denim, cotton and functional fabrics.”
The winter edition will also show Texworld USA’s FashionInnovate, a one-day conference dedicated to “tools and innovative fabrics that address industry challenges and will assist companies in the quest for sustainability,” according to the firm, and enables industry experts to touch on sustainability solutions, inclusive of bio-synthetics, smart textiles and other technology tools.
“We chose innovation as the direction for 2020 as a way to call attention to the inventiveness in the industry and take steps toward synchronizing sustainability and innovation,” said Jennifer Bacon, show director of fashion and apparel. “By adding elements like FashionInnovate and the curated innovation showcase, we achieve our objective to elevate our platform by bringing in the brightest minds to spread awareness on these topics.”
And Tricia Carey, Lenzing Fiber’s director of global business development, added that its biannual Seminar Series will offer the latest in sustainability and sourcing solutions. “We’re looking forward to a new year in sustainable sourcing opportunities. Despite the apparel industry sourcing challenges, we see Texworld USA as an opportunity for alternative sourcing solutions for today’s market. The Lenzing Innovation Seminar Series includes topics ranging from sustainability, tech, and sourcing. We think the assortment of new mills participating at the show covers a variety of customer needs, from the larger brands to DTC customers. With that, Lenzing has recommendations for sourcing fabrics with Tenel Lyocell and Modal.”
Spotlight: SwimShow
SwimShow, the longest-running swimwear trade show, will hold its annual event next July at the Miami Beach Convention Center, with dates soon to be announced. The event, in its 38th year running, will be produced by the Swimwear Association of Florida and held with support from the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority.
As its focus is to be a resource for buyers from all swimwear categories, SwimShow caters to designer boutiques, resort shops, specialty stores, surf shops, department stores and mass merchants, among many other outlets, show organizers said. Attendees can find themselves in the company of buyers, manufacturers, designers, corporate personnel, press, influencers, bloggers, fashion consultants, stylists and other fashion industry leaders.
“SwimShow features not only a variety of iconic women’s, men’s and children’s swimwear; but also showcases the up-and-coming emerging swim brands, along with beachwear, accessory, lifestyle and resort companies,” show organizers noted.
Aside from providing the setting for retailers, manufacturers and other industry representatives to peruse the latest trends in swimwear, SwimShow also offers The Collection, a “curated fashion environment” that allows retailers to scout emerging and established talent in the contemporary and luxury markets to promote some of the industry’s brightest stars.
“The Collection is an added element to the main trade show that showcases some of the extraordinary talent in our show,” said SwimShow executive director Judy Stein. “We’re going to build upon the momentum that SwimShow 2019 generated and implement even more creative ways to make the buying experience unforgettable,” Stein added.
