LONDON — European stock markets were down in midmorning trading on Thursday, with the DAX in Frankfurt leading the way.
The German market fell 1.7 percent to 9,814.45; followed by the FTSE MIB in Milan, 1.6 percent to 18,437.28; the CAC 40 in Paris, 1.3 percent to 4404.28, and the FTSE 100 in London, 0.5 percent to 6,142.94.
The euro traded at $1.11, while the pound fetched $1.41 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.01 at 11:30 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly down, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Zalando, 3.3 percent to 27.25 euros; Jimmy Choo, 2.2 percent to 1.32 pounds; Koovs, 3 percent to 0.16 pounds; Geox, 2.1 percent to 2.87 euros, and Asos.com, 2.3 percent to 30.19 pounds.
Among the very few stocks that gained ground in midmorning was Mulberry Group, 1.3 percent to 9.87 pounds.
