During the September 2025 New York Fashion Week season, WWD spent time with Lindsi Lane, style expert and social media influencer, Cotton and Revolve, to get her tips for getting ready for both fashion week and other special occasions.
For the ultimate “girls guide on how to thrive,” Lane created these tips for women on the go and for people who become overwhelmed when shopping and putting together looks.
Lane said that pre-planning looks for special events helps to take the anxiety out of the equation. And moreover, it means you’re not scrambling the morning of the event — thus, “you can focus on enjoying the fun.”
She advises laying out every look for each day if it’s a multiday event, including accessories and shoes. By doing so, each outfit has a sense of intentionality and feels more polished. Selecting layering pieces can also help during the transitional and unpredictable weather. Cotton is a great fabric for both warm and cool days, said Lane.
Oftentimes, Lane turns to The Cotton Shop on Revolve for inspiration. “Being efficient with your time is key and the curated assortment makes it easy to find both cotton basics and more on-trend pieces all in one place!”
During fashion week and a packed calendar, prioritize comfort — but it doesn’t replace being stylish. Denim is a great fabric selection to achieve this with authentic denim being made from cotton. Select long-lasting pieces with a good fit that age well, to create a “worn-in style.”
On mixing high and low fashion, Lane said that wearing designer head to toe isn’t what makes someone stylish — “it’s the way you put a look together.” Pairing together investment statement items with more fun and affordable pieces will help create looks that are “fresh, unique and approachable.” All the pieces in The Cotton Shop on Revolve have a variety of brands and price points to choose from.
