Rick Owens‘ next stop: the mouth.
The avant-garde fashion house, celebrated for its slashed garments and ballooned footwear, has partnered with artisanal oral care brand Selahatin on a four-piece, limited-edition collection made with a custom aroma that combines notes of verbena, madgascar vanilla and Sichuan pepper. The products include Whitening Toothpaste, Mouthwash, Eau d’Extrait Oral, a Handmade Horn Toothbrush and a mini travel set.
At the heart of this collaboration is the belief that “essential things should be made special,” said the namesake designer in the official press release. Each product combines the monochromatic and magnetic codes of Owens’ label with the ritualistic heritage of Selahatin to inspire an emotional exploration of the self. Here, brushing becomes a form of grounded meditation and mouthwash is the much-needed palette cleanser designed to awaken the senses.
An avid fan of the mouth care brand, Owens said he had been the one to suggest he and Selahatin founder Kristoffer Vural team up. “I wrote a story about my daily life in a magazine in which I said: ‘I brush my teeth with Selahatin toothpaste because I love their font,’ which was true. Then, on Instagram, I saw a Selahatin ad with my blurred face and my quote over it. I thought that was bold. I contacted them and complimented them on their cheekiness. I told them: ‘We should do a collaboration.’ That’s how we got here,” he explained.
Vural launched Selahatin in the wake of a serious health scare. “After a stroke left me starting over, creating Selahatin became a way to find myself again,” he said. “What began as an attempt to elevate a mundane act evolved into a lifeline that helped me climb out of a dark place. That this improbable journey would lead me here, alongside Rick Owens, is beyond anything I could have imagined all those years ago.”
The debut of this collection comes after Owens previously teamed up with Selahatin to offer boar-hair toothbrushes in the gift shop of his expansive exhibition at Palais Galliera back in June.
