According to the filing, Cosmoss owed about $3 million to its creditors; the majority of which was owed to Moss’ personal talent agency, Kate Moss Agency. The company last submitted its financial records to Companies House in 2023. Moss is the majority shareholder of Cosmoss, followed by a boutique brand incubator called Warsaw Labs, and three separate individuals.

The storied fashion mogul made her move into beauty with Cosmoss three years ago, launching with six products: The Sacred Mist fragrance, The Golden Nectar CBD & Pro-Collagen Oil, Face Cream, Face Cleanser, Dawn Tea and Dusk Tea.

Since then, Cosmoss has released a handful of essentials, including Fragrance Free Face Cream, Fragrance Free Face Cleanser and a specialized Love Letters Book of Affirmations. Cosmoss also expanded into new markets in the years after its initial release, opening in retailers, resorts and spas across Ireland, France, Germany and the U.S.

“Cosmoss is very personal to me, I wanted to create something I believed in, something that I could share. I wanted the ingredients to be as natural as possible, to create something spiritual and soulful. Cosmoss is a brand with rituals, not rules; I’ve created wellness my way, for soul and senses,” Moss told WWD in 2023.

When the brand entered the U.S. market, Moss recognized the significance of the move, crediting America as the very country where she was serendipitously discovered. “My career began at JFK airport, so I am excited Cosmoss has now landed and is ready to share with you all in the U.S.,” she said, referring to the moment Storm model agent Sarah Doukas scouted her in the ’90s.

The success of a celebrity brand is, in part, dependent on authenticity; how do these products represent a key aspect or personal anecdote about the owner? Since its opening, Moss has remained at the heart of the Cosmoss brand vision. Her journey to self-love and well-being was a common thread through each business development and product debut. On the day of its launch, the brand wrote: “Cosmoss draws on the extraordinary life experience of Kate Moss — ready to share her journey of self-acceptance and freely be herself.”

Cosmoss’ liquidation status comes at a time when more A-listers are not only joining the beauty industry but adding breath to the space and setting record highs for business deals. In June, Shakira became the latest celebrity to launch a hair care line with her brand Isima. A few weeks prior, Hailey Bieber’s Rhode skin care line was acquired by E.l.f. Beauty in a deal estimated at $1 billion, one of the largest M&A deals since 2019.

WWD has contacted Moss’ representatives for a comment.
